Want to know more about all the RAM parts under your vehicle’s hood? It’s never a bad time to learn more about the parts in your RAM truck.
Our team at I.G. Burton Chrysler Dodge Jeep© RAM of Milford, put together a guide explaining one of your truck’s most important parts: your muffler.
What is a Muffler?
As the name implies, a muffler is designed to muffle the sound your vehicle’s engine creates. As your engine powers your car, the different components vibrate and make a ton of noise.
It’s your mufflers job to minimize the amount of noise your engine produces. Sometimes called a silencer, a muffler, is a crucial part of your vehicle’s performance and drivability.
How Does a Muffler Work?
Your muffler is a non-moving object attached to the exhaust pipe. Capped onto your exhaust pipe, the muffler stifles the sound produced by your engine by reflecting sound waves. Additionally, the exhaust fumes from your engine pass through the muffler and out onto the street.
When Should You Replace Your Muffler
Just like every part on your vehicle, your muffler will begin to wear down over time. Because it’s exposed to weather and the elements, you’ll notice corrosion or damage to your muffler.
Also, if your muffler stops working you’ll be able to hear it. Not only will the noise pollution be horrendous, but you’ll also have to deal with buildup in your exhaust pipes. Avoid greater damage to your vehicle by replacing your muffler as soon as possible at our dealership.
