If you are in the market for purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, the test drive is one of the most significant and finalizing steps in your decision process. Here at I.G. Burton Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM of Milford, it is our goal to match you to your ideal Chrysler car. It’s important to consider the following when going on your test drive.

Inspect the Exterior and Under the Hood

One of the first things you will want to do is inspect the exterior of the vehicle. This includes checking for any marks or dents and making sure the tires match and are in good condition. Be sure to look out for rust or parts that looked like they may have been replaced, as this can signify age and previous accidents.

Be sure to check for cracks in the glass as well. They can become larger over time and may result in window replacements. Pop the hood and look inside to make sure the battery is not corroded, and the belts and hoses aren’t cracked.

Take a Seat

You’ll want to test all seats and seatbelts inside the vehicle to make sure both you and your passengers will have a comfortable experience. Check the seats for any wear and remember to look up and make sure the roof isn’t sagging, as this could be a sign of water damage.

When you settle into the front seat go ahead and test the door locks, then test all the lights and adjust your mirrors to make sure your visibility is clear. Keep in mind that a faulty light may signify another electrical issue, so don’t discount it.

Crank up both the heat and AC and make sure you don’t smell anything unpleasant that could indicate the presence of mold or mildew. Turn on the radio and make sure the speakers don’t sound blown out. If available, check to see if your device can connect and charge.

Road Performance

When you finally get onto the road, check your visibility from all directions. Pay extra attention to how the car feels while driving. Listen for any strange noises and see if you can detect any smells that are off.

If your test route doesn’t include any, find some speed bumps to drive over to evaluate any potential issues with the suspension. If possible, drive roads that are similar to your daily commute to really get a feel of the vehicle you are considering.

After inspecting the interior and exterior and evaluating road performance, you should have a clearer idea if the vehicle is right for you. Don’t hesitate to contact I.G. Burton Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Milford to test-drive any used Chrysler vehicle of your choosing!
